First Gear Academy Opens Enrollment to

Children of any Swan Island Employee

Any employee of a Swan Island business now has a new and convenient daycare option.  The First Gear   Academy, a popular option once available only to Daimler employees, has opened its enrollment to kids of anyone working on the Island.

First Gear is operated by Childrens’ Creative Learning Centers (CCLC) and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  First Gear Academy is staffed by qualified teachers and boasts a rich learning environment, clearly-defined standards and outcomes that put children on track for success in school and in life.  The center opened in January and serves children ages six weeks to 12 years of age.  The day care is convenient to reach, housed in a Daimler building just off the Going Street inlet on Channel Drive.

"We’re proud of our new facility. The warm, comfortable environment, combined with our stimulating curriculum and enrichment programs, will enhance each child’s learning opportunity and inspire growth,” says Director of the First Gear Academy Wendy Bruno.

The First Gear Academy has an Eco-Healthy focus for the building and in its curriculum.  Many earth-friendly materials and practices went into the construction of the center and its furnishings.  Environmental practices are also incorporated into the center daily routines. Children learn to care for their environment, to not be wasteful and participate in environmental classroom projects.

First Gear Academy uses CCLC’s exclusive Guided Discovery™ curriculum. Guided Discovery is a "whole child" approach to learning that incorporates different aspects of a child's physical, social, linguistic, cognitive, and emotional development into a variety of daily activities.  The curriculum reflects the criteria set by NAEYC.

More information is available at the CCLC website or by contacting First Gear Academy at (503) 745-3532.
